
Melissa Crystal O'Neil, born on the 12th of July 1988[1,] is a Canadian singer/actress from Canada. O'Neil is the first Canadian female winner of Canadian Idol's 3rd season was awarded the title in 2005. In her role as an actress, she is most well-known for her role as Two and Rebecca / Portia Lin on the Syfy science fiction series Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama The Rookie.Although she was widely praised by the judges, O'Neil experienced major setbacks in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals as she was voted in the third and fourth places as well as the bottom two. Disappointed, the judges urged viewers to vote for contestants such as Melissa, who clearly had the most impressive vocal skills. O'Neil was acknowledged for her talent and she never dropped back to the bottom three. Zack Werner declared that O'Neil was "a threat" to win the whole contest. O'Neil together with Rex Goudie, reached the finals on September 7 on the 7th of September in 2005. Werner, a judge famously announced that the headlines of the following day's news will be "The King [Kalan Porter] is dead. Long live the Queen." O'Neil defeated Goudie in the final results show on September 14th, 2005 to win the title of Canada's third Idol.
